NORWAY — Norway Memorial Library invites the public to Living Sustainably, a four-part series beginning on Thursday, April 17, and consecutively every two weeks until May 29.

Each program will focus on a specific topic in living sustainably and feature a guest speaker. The topics will include raising chickens, building and living in alternative housing, different ways to preserve vegetables and the importance bees have in our ecology.

The first program, “Raising Chickens in Your Backyard,” is presented by Diane L Ward, a participant of the master gardener and master food preserver volunteer programs at the Oxford County Cooperative Extension for the past five years. Ward began raising chickens in 1973 with dual-purpose chickens, bantam chickens and raising chickens from eggs. Ward’s presentation will include a discussion of the varieties of breeds, housing a flock and the care and feeding of chickens.

All programs run from 6:30 to 8 p.m. and are free and open to the public.

To register for all or just one program, or for more information, call the information desk at 743-5309, ext. 1.

The other programs are:

May 1, “Alternative Housing” with Alex Miller and CEBE’s Scott Vlaun.

May 15, “Preserving Vegetables” with Diane L. Ward.

May 29, “Importance of Bees” with Oxford Hills Bee Keepers Association.
