1954 – 2014
LEWISTON — Ronald Charles Dufour, 59, of Lewiston, passed away at home peacefully, with his family, as he wished, on Wednesday, April 9, after a three-and-a-half-year battle with cancer.
He was born on April 13, 1954, a son of Victor and Constance (Masse) Dufour. He was educated in Lewiston schools. In 1972, he met the love of his life, Penelope “Pennie” Paradis.
Ron held various jobs as a young man and was a hard worker; he provided abundantly for his family. In his early career, he worked for Seltzer and Rydholm, Central Distributors and ITT Continental Baking Co. as a driver and salesman. He finished his career with Elmet Technology, where he trained as a precision machinist, working there for 26 years.
Ron enjoyed the outdoors and all it had to offer. He was an avid fisherman and was successful in many bass tournaments. He enjoyed teaching the art of fishing and hunting to his children and grandchildren. Many memories and stories were told about hunting, fishing, snowmobiling and spending time with his outdoor buddies. He also enjoyed real estate and renovation, which allowed him to purchase his lifelong dream of a waterfront property.
Ron and his wife’s biggest enjoyment and fulfillment was making memories with immediate and extended family and friends at his Eagle Lake home, at times hosting as many as 30 family members at once. Ronnie was a devoted husband and very committed to making a wonderful life for his family.
He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Pennie; a son, Jamie and his wife, Lesley; a daughter, Laurie Dufour-Murphy; grandchildren, Brendon, Karrington, Bryce and Rylee; two sisters, Susan Lemay and her husband, Michael, of Greene and Annette Giguere and her husband, Dale, of Windham; three brothers, Michael Dufour of Brunswick, Victor Dufour of Sabattus and Denis Dufour of Rumford; and a large extended and supportive family, including in-laws, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and family friends.
Ron fought cancer with courage and always remained hopeful, placing the ultimate trust in his caretakers. We were often told by multiple staff and physicians the he was one of their favorite patients. The family would like to thank the compassionate care of Dr. Raymond Tardif, PCP; Dr. Ian Dunn; Seth Santos, PA-C; Dr. Scott Swanson and the nursing staff at Brigham and Women’s, Central Maine Medical Center and Dempsey Center, who provided personal and special care to Ron.
