BETHEL — The Board of Selectmen unanimously voted Monday to allow the Bethel Chamber of Commerce to close Main Street for the Mollyocket Festival on July 19 and 20.

Town Manager Jim Doar told selectmen, “This is the third consecutive year that the Bethel Chamber of Commerce have requested to close Main Street for Mollyockett.”

Chamber Executive Director Robin Zinchuk told the board the chamber will be setting up barricades, signs and volunteers on Main Street during the festival. She said that over the last three years they have been able to “figure out where the barricades need to go, and what businesses are more sensitive to the road being closed.

“We’ll be letting vendors know that there are certain businesses that may need to let people get in and out,” Zinchuk said.

In other business, the board voted to allow the Town Office to upgrade the computer operating systems.

Doar said the four computers were currently running Windows XP, an operating system that has recently become outdated.

“We have enough money to replace two of them this fiscal year,” Doar said.

Town Clerk Christen Mason said her computer needs to be updated to run certain programs.

“The town uses new voting machines now, and to order ballots I go through somewhere else now,” Mason said. “They ask me to use an Excel spreadsheet to place my order, but my computer can’t even open that program.”

Selectmen also approved liquor license renewals for S.S. Milton, Kowloon Village Chinese Restaurant and the Bethel Commodore Corp.
