1914 – 2014

WEST PARIS – Leora Lakeway Farrington, 99, of Greenwood, formerly of Bryant Pond, passed away Wednesday, April 9, at Ledgeview Living Center.

She was born in Littleton, N.H., on Nov. 11, 1914, the daughter of the late Volney and Sadie Emery Lakeway. They moved to Bryant Pond in 1919. Leora attended Woodstock High School, graduating in 1934. Leora had a pony in seventh grade that she rode to school for two years.

Leora married Arthur J. Farrington on Jan. 16, 1936 and lived in Bryant Pond for 57 years, establishing their residence in Greenwood in 1993. She started sewing at a very young age, making her dresses.

She worked from home making casket linings for Andrews Funeral Home in Woodstock for 21 years. She loved to pick strawberries, gardening and canning vegetables. She made and sold butter. She made the best popcorn balls for her family at Christmas into her 90s. Her hands were always busy and created many beautiful counted cross-stitch. She loved flowers and had a green thumb. She had the ability to revive a plant from near death. She held the Boston Cane in Greenwood since 2007. She was a member of the Bryant Pond Baptist Church, teaching Sunday school for 14 years. She was a member of the Farm Bureau for many years.

She is survived by two sons, Philip and wife, Martha, of Florida and Wallace and wife, Rose, of Bryant Pond; two daughters, Mrs. Luna Martin of Oxford and Mrs. Arnold (Pearl) Jordan of Greenwood; eight grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and three great great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her husband, Arthur, and a brother, Shirl.
