LEWISTON — The YWCA is offering an introduction to paddle boarding with Ian Barclay from Skindivers Paradise. It will be held at the YWCA pool.

Participants will learn how to safely get on and off a board, learn proper standing technique, paddling techniques, turning the board, feeling the waves and how to get their “sea legs.”

The class will cover safety techniques and rules. Topics include board anatomy, care and choosing the right board and paddle.

This one-hour intro to stand-up paddle is a great form of exercise and perfect for those who have never paddled.

The one-hour times will be offered Tuesday, April 22, from 6:30 to 7:30 and 7:30 to 8:30 p.m.; Wednesday, April 23, from 2:30 to 3:30 and 3:30 to 4:30 p.m.; and Saturday, April 26, from 11 a.m. to noon and noon to 1 p.m.

The cost is $18 per person. Preregistration is required by calling 795-4050, ext. 20; ask for Linda Sherman.

The YWCA is holding a Try-Me Week schedule from April 20-27. All open swim times, water fitness classes and Magic Y-World will be offered at a discounted rate. Magic Y-World is L/A’s only indoor gigantic float.
