No Sunday breakfast at Legion

AUBURN — American Legion Post 153 will not hold its usual third-Sunday community breakfast on April 20 due to Easter.

Holy Week at High Street Congre.

AUBURN — Holy Week at High Street Congregational Church will feature the following events.

Maundy Thursday, supper and Tennebrae, April 17. A simple supper of soup and bread is offered at 6 p.m. This will be followed by a Service of Tennebrae (or Shadows), in which light and darkness are used to symbolize the rejection and suffering of Jesus.

Easter Sunrise, Festival Park in Auburn, 6 a.m., rain or shine (or snow). This is a joyful celebration of the resurrection, with music, warmth, the morning sun and the roar of the mighty Androscoggin River.

Easter breakfast will be served from 8 to 9 a.m. at the church.

Easter celebration and worship at 10 a.m. The service will focus on the joy and hope of Easter. Music by the choir and Lauren Haven. Sermon by the pastor, Stephen Carnahan, referencing the events of last year’s tragic Boston Marathon, entitled “Resurrection Strong.” An intergenerational experience that children and adults will enjoy.

All events are open to the public. The official address of High Street Church is 106 Pleasant St. It spans the block between High and Pleasant, and has parking available from either street.

Vacation Hip Hop Dance Camp

BRUNSWICK — New England Regional Theater Co. Vacation Hip Hop Dance Camp will take place from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday, April 21, through Friday, April 25, at Studio 48 Performing Arts and Dance Center.

New England Regional Theater Company, a nonprofit community theater, is registering only 20 dancers for the dance camp. The new instructor, Jose Nieves from Puerto Rico, is an experienced hip hop, salsa and bachata dancer and instructor.

He enjoys teaching contemporary, hip hop, lyrical and jazz, salsa and bachata to all age groups.

Lewiston Bridge Club winners

LEWISTON — The Lewiston Bridge Club winners at the Lewiston Armory on April 14 were as follows: first/second/third tie, Larry Fortier and Roger Labbe, Mary Trafton and Luke Merry and Les Buzzell and Paul Sherman.

Winners on April 15 were: first, Sharron Hinckley and Fred Letourneau; second/third tie, Larry Fortier and Roger Labbe with Les Buzzell and Mike True; first in B, Larry Fortier and Roger Labbe; second, Cynthia and Bill Clifford.

Games are played every Monday and Tuesday at 9 a.m. in the Seniors’ Room at the Lewiston Armory, 65 Central Ave. A partner is always guaranteed and all bridge players are welcomed. Call Rosemarie Goodwin at 754-1431 for more information.

No game will be played on Monday, April 21, Patriot’s Day. The annual charity game for the American Contract Bridge League will be held at 9 a.m. Tuesday, April 22.

Scottish Rite Masons to meet

AUBURN — The Valley of the Androscoggin Scottish Rite Masons will meet Friday, May 2, at the Auburn Masonic Hall on Turner Street for a stated meeting. There will be a 6:30 p.m. supper followed by a short business meeting and program.

The entertainment will be Michael Parent. A native Mainer of French-Canadian descent, Parent has performed as a storyteller and singer, in both English and French, throughout the United States, and beyond, since 1977. He has been featured at many events, including the National Storytelling Festival in Jonesborough, Tenn., and international events in France, England, Ireland, Poland and New Zealand. In addition to his performances for a wide range of audiences, including schools, libraries, theaters and festivals, he also leads storytelling, story writing and performance workshops.

All Scottish Rite Masons, wives and guests are welcome to attend.

St. Anne Sodality plans award dinner

LEWISTON — The Ladies of St. Anne Sodality of Holy Family Prince of Peace Parish will hold their Annual Award Dinner for the Sodalist of the Year on Wednesday, May 7, at the Green Ladle Cafe on East Avenue.

A pork tenderloin dinner will be served at 6 p.m. Doors will open at 5:30. Ticket will be be available for $18 by contacting any board member or by calling Anita at 782-4516.

Deadline for reservations is April 30. Nonmembers are welcomed.

Entertainment will be provided by vocalist Pam Vaillancourt and there will be door prizes and 50/50.
