CASWELL — Wardens have recovered the body of a Caswell man who apparently drowned late Tuesday evening after falling into a culvert near his residence, according to information released Wednesday morning by the Maine Warden Service.

Paul Oliver, 74, was reported missing just after 9:30 p.m. Tuesday after moving his truck across a flooded portion of Oliver Road in Caswell, according to Warden Cpl. John MacDonald. Oliver then attempted to walk back across the flooded dirt roadway to his residence.

MacDonald said the road was completely covered with fast-flowing water and Oliver apparently stepped into the opening of a large culvert that was covered by the water and was subsequently swept downstream.

His body was located at 5:35 a.m. Wednesday approximately 20 yards downstream of the culvert, MacDonald said.

Wardens were assisted at the scene by members of the Limestone Fire Department.
