1926 – 2014

FARMINGTON — Dora M. Slovak, 87, a resident of Jay, passed away at the Sandy River Center for Health Care and Rehabilitation in Farmington from congestive heart failure on Tuesday, April 15, with her family by her side.

She was born in Frenchville on April 17, 1926, a daughter of Albert and Eva (Desrosier) Guerette. She was educated in Frenchville, Madawaska and Rimouski, Quebec. Dora was married in Sinclair to Joseph Slovak on July 4, 1953. She had worked at Farmington and Livermore Falls Shoe.

Dora was a communicant of St. Rose of Lima Church and member of the Daughters of Isabella and Ladies of St. Ann. Dora was also a member of the VFW Post 3335 Ladies Auxiliary and a former member of the AMVETS Ladies Auxiliary.

She enjoyed family, playing cards, doing puzzles, fishing, going to the Senior Citizens meetings and watching the birds in her backyard.

Dora is survived by her husband of 60 years, Joseph Slovak, of Jay; daughters, Joan Parker and her husband, Curt, of Jay and Pauline Slovak of Las Vegas, Nev.; sons, Paul Slovak of Jay and Thomas Slovak and his wife, Lori, of Livermore Falls; grandchildren, Christopher Parker of Lisbon, Jennifer Beaulieu of Jay, Kelly Parker of Jay, Michael Slovak of Long Island, N.Y., and Samantha Slovak of Livermore Falls; great-grandchildren, Parker and Connor Beaulieu of Jay and Aidan and Nolan Parker of Lisbon; sisters, Dorina LaCasse of Harmony, Theresa Martin of Forestville, Conn., Joan Plourde of Fort Kent and Bernadette Cappela of Newington, Conn.; and her brother, Joseph “Luke” Guerette, of Unionville, Conn.

She was predeceased by her parents; brothers, Hermon, Gilman, Fernand and Louis Guerette; and sisters, Jeannine Gagne and Lucille Guerette.
