1921 – 2014

LEWISTON — Margaret T. Dearborn, 93, a former resident of Livermore, died Tuesday, April 15, at d’Youville Pavilion, surrounded by her loving children.

She was born in Farmington on Feb. 28, 1921, the daughter of Ralph and Esther (Stolt) Stevens. They moved to Livermore Falls when she was very young, where she attended the one-room school at Haines Corner and later graduated from Livermore Falls High School, Class of 1939. During World War II, she worked on national defense for Hood Rubber Co. in Watertown, Mass.

In 1947, she returned to Maine and married Danville Dearborn in Livermore, and they made their home at the old Dearborn family farm. They later moved to Brettun’s Pond in 1957. Mr. Dearborn passed away in 1997.

Margaret was employed at Livermore Shoe Co. in Livermore Falls in the factory and the office for 15 years. She also accepted a position at the University of Maine Extension Service working in the twin counties, with adult and youth work in the summer programs. Margaret taught adult education for several semesters and was involved with Weight Watchers of Maine for several years as a leader. She taught in the Rumford area for 10 years, until her retirement.

Following her retirement, she and her husband moved to Auburn where she was very active in the Tenants Association and served as president and vice-president. In 1994, the community room at the Auburn Town House was her meeting room for her many years of service to the organization.

She received many awards, such as the Outstanding Citizen Award in 1975, the Grange Community Citizen Award in 1981, Weight Watchers Award for outstanding accomplishment in 1975 and the Lifetime Achievement Award in 2010 from the Maine Health Care Association.

Margaret was a member of North Livermore Baptist Church, where she served as Deaconess and on various committees, especially in the kitchen restoration project and working on suppers. She was a great supporter of the Pine Tree 4-H Foundation, a member of the Friendly Extension Group, Tenants Association, Horizons 55 and Covenant 55.

She enjoyed life to the fullest, with humor and helping others whenever she could. She loved to cook, using many old time recipes — it was her specialty. Margaret enjoyed her only grandchild, Joshua, being with him whenever she could; he was her pride and joy. This same pride and joy was extended when her great-grandson, Ian, was born.

She is survived by her daughter, Dorothy Maxwell, of Cornish; her son, Danville Dearborn Jr. and his wife, Peggy, of Wales; her grandson, Joshua Dearborn and his wife, Ingrid, of New York City, N.Y.; great-grandson, Ian Dearborn, also of New York City; and her niece, Annie Stevens, of St. Louis, Mo.

She was predeceased by her brothers, Lawrence Stevens and Emerson Stevens; her sister, Anna Dearborn; and son-in-law, James Maxwell.
