WEST PARIS — Vernal F. Andrews, 97, of Sumner, died Sunday, April 13, at Ledgeview Living Center.

He was born in Sumner on Jan. 6, 1917, the son of William W. and Eunice M. Berry Andrews. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving in the European Theater from 1943 to 1946. Vernal married Helen Axtell in 1962. He was employed and retired from Pineland hospital as a stationary engineer.

Vernal was a lifelong resident of Sumner and holder of the Boston Post Cane. He was a member of the Kora Shrine and a master Mason for more than 50 years.

He is survived by his sister-in-law, Ester Andrews; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents; his wife, Helen; and brothers, Chester and George.

The family would like to express their thanks to the nurses and staff at Ledgeview Living Center for the comfort and care they provided Vernal during his stay there.
