GOODELL, Iowa — Emma Bachelder, 75, of Goodell, Iowa, passed away on Monday, April 14, from natural causes.

Emma was born in San Francisco de Borja, Chihuahua, Mexico, on Oct. 30, 1938. She was married to George Bachelder on July 15, 1959; they were married for 22 years.

She has shared her life with Francisco Garibay for the past 20 years, living in Goodell, Iowa, since 1996.

Emma worked in many fields during her life. She was well-known and loved for her generosity and compassion in helping under-served people and families in need. She was recognized for her service in social justice by receiving the John W. Ballou Distinguished Service Award from the Maine State Bar.

She had a life filled with family and friends and she touched the lives of countless people everywhere she went. She will be much missed by all who had the blessing of knowing her.

Emma is survived by eight of her siblings and 11 of the children she raised, including Fernando, George, Gloria, Rick, Mark, Carolyn, Lucy, Nieves, Jose, Fernando E. and Tom.
