Lewiston cotton mills on the canal were forced to suspend Tuesday on account of the weakened condition of the coffer dam at the Bates. They may be able to resume work Wednesday afternoon or Thursday morning if the gaps and holes can be plugged. (Pete) Goulet, 82, of 122 Webster St., working at the store at 131 Pleasant St., told police he believed the youth was brandishing a toy firearm, so he didn’t heed the order to lie down on the floor. Gottlet said that when the youth ran into the store, he told Goulet, “This is a stickup.” The Lewiston man told the masked youth to get out of the store. “I mean business,” said the gunman. “So do I,” replied Goulet.
