BETHEL — The Bethel Conservation Committee will hold its second annual Bethel Green-Up Day from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, May 3, member Jessie Perkins said Monday afternoon.

Perkins said last year’s event included volunteers from the Bethel Chamber of Commerce, the Bethel Conservation Committee, the Rotary Interact Club from Telstar Regional High School, and others who were able to “fill the bed of a pickup truck with trash collected from Davis Park and the surrounding areas.”

“We also were able to donate a big bag of bottles and cans to Telstar Regional High School,” Perkins said.

Green-Up Day is being held “a few weeks earlier to avoid any inclement weather,” he said.

“Last year, we had to postpone the event an extra week because we got hit by a big sleet storm,” Perkins said. “We told ourselves that the weather would have to be extreme for us to cancel, and last year, it was really extreme. Hopefully, by holding it earlier, we can avoid some of that weather.”

Volunteers will meet at Davis Park to get a trash bag and cover surrounding areas such as the Bethel Pathway, the Bethel Station and roadways. Perkins siad people with pickup trucks are needed to bring the trash bags to the transfer station.

After the event, the Conservation Committee will have homemade cookies for volunteers.
