1946 – 2014
VERO BEACH, Fla. — David L. Powers, 68, of Vero Beach, Fla., died peacefully at the VNA Hospice House in Vero Beach, surrounded by family and loved ones, on Friday, April 18, following a brief illness.
David was born in Portland on March 4, 1946, the son of John Powers Jr. and Dorothy Bragdon Powers. He graduated from Monmouth Academy in Monmouth and Becker College in Worcester, Mass.
David lived in Standish for many years, employed as a carpenter and later at Federal Express.
Prior to retirement, David had two profitable vocations creating reproduction furniture and refurbishing street rods. He attended numerous car shows and enjoyed participating in the “rod runs.” His innate talent and insistence on perfection produced professional quality results and also earned him a perfect “Mr. Fix It.” David’s greatest pride and joy was his daughter, Kristen; they shared a very special bond.
After retirement, David moved to Florida, where he enjoyed golf and tennis. He later became a member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church, where he found much Christian love and volunteered his time.
David is survived by his wife of 46 years, Judy; a daughter, Kristen Powers, of North Carolina; a sister, Mary Jane Buck and her husband, Terry, of Turner; and several nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to express thanks and much gratitude to the staff at VNA Hospice for their invaluable and sensitive assistance; you are truly angles on Earth. A special thank-you also goes to Dr. K for his continued support during David’s illness; David always thought of him as a great friend and mentor.
