1921 – 2014
LEWISTON — Chester R. Dulac, 92, of Lewiston, passed away on Friday, April 18, at d’Youville Pavilion.
“Chet” was born on July 25, 1921, the son of Rodolphe and Mora (Arnoldy) Dulac. He attended Lisbon schools and enlisted in the U.S. Navy on Aug. 31, 1942. He proudly served his country during World War II on the USS La Vallette destroyer, while engaging the enemy in fierce battles on several occasions.
After his discharge from the Navy, he married the former Jeannette Labonte in May 1945. Their only child, Richard, was born in April 1946. In 1950, Chet and his family moved into a new home on Gulf Island Road in Lewiston that he helped build. Jeannette passed away in 1986.
In 1988, he met the former Anita Fortin and they wed in October of that year. Chester worked for many years in the former Continental and Hill mills. Eventually he started his own TV repair business, City Wide Electronics, and also had a tool-sharpening business. In his later years, he worked at St. Peter’s Cemetery as a groundskeeper.
He was a superb vegetable gardener and had a big garden every year. He loved to fish and hunt, and in his early years was an avid and very successful trapper.
Chet is survived by his wife, Anita; his son, Richard and wife, Garrianne Dulac, of Buckfield; three stepdaughters, Helen and husband, John Belisle, of Greene, Connie and husband, the Rev. Dan Michaud, of New Gloucester and Pauline and husband, Dennis Cote, of Brunswick; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his parents; his first wife, Jeannette; a brother, Lawrence; and a sister, Violet.
The family wish to express their thanks and appreciation to the nurses and staff at d’Youville Pavilion for their special care of Chester. Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice of Lewiston was incredible, and a source of great comfort and support to Chester and Anita. A special thank-you to Caley Allen of Harpswell for her kind devotion to Chester and Anita.
