Bean supper, potluck lunch

AUBURN — A bean supper will be held at 5 p.m. Saturday, April 26, at the Auburn United Methodist Church, 439 Park Ave.

The menu includes baked beans, casseroles, potato salad, hot dogs, coleslaw, breads, beverage and pie. The cost is $7.

A potluck lunch will be held after Church Service on Sunday, April 27. Lunch will begin around 11.

Turkey supper at VFW Post 1603

AUBURN — A turkey supper will be held from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Friday, May 2, at VFW Post 1603, 588 Minot Ave.

The supper, featuring real mashed potatoes and all the fixings, will support the post. The cost is $8.

Touch a Truck event on May 3

AUBURN — The fourth annual Touch a Truck event will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, May 3, at Central Maine Community College.

This free community-wide event, brought to you by United Way of Androscoggin County and its partners Clover Health Care, Advocates For Children and Central Maine Community College, will be the biggest Touch a Truck ever.

Last year, 1,900 people attended. Kids and the young at heart have the opportunity to see, touch, interact and learn about dozens of cool vehicles. From fire trucks to tractor trailers, police cars, radio station vehicles, TV news satellite, garbage trucks to rescue vehicles of all types – kids of all ages love the loud and unique vehicles.

There will also be a children’s book swap and several children’s activities tables. Event will be held rain or shine. Adult supervision is required and cameras are highly recommended.

APL plans spring book sale

AUBURN — Auburn Public Library will hold its Spring Book Sale from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, May 3, in the Androscoggin Room and the adjacent book sale room on the lower level of the library.

There will be thousands of gently used books for sale, with prices starting at 25 cents.

The event will feature a Super Bargain final hour, with books selling for a buck a bag, from 3 to 4 p.m.

Donations of used books prior to the sale will be happily accepted. Please, no moldy books, or encyclopedias, condensed books or magazines.

All proceeds will benefit the library’s annual fund.

Youth fishing derbies are May 3, 10

AUBURN — The City of Auburn Recreation Division in conjunction with the Auburn Exchange Club has announced the annual Youth Fishing Derbies. The derbies will take place at the pond at Pettengill Park from 8 to 11 a.m. Saturday, May 3, for ages 9-15, and from 8 to 11 a.m. Saturday, May 10, for ages 3-8.

The registration fee is $5 per participant. The derbies will take place rain or shine.

Auburn invites its citizens to take part in this family-friendly, recreational event.

Scouts collect bottles for headstones

AUBURN — Cub Scout Pack 111 in Auburn is planning a fundraising campaign to purchase headstones for unmarked graves of victims of a tragic nursery fire. The blaze occurred on Jan. 31, 1945, in New Auburn.

Their goal is to raise $2,000 to purchase and install 10 headstones. To this end, on Saturday, May 3, they will hold a bottle drive in the parking lot at the Auburn United Methodist Church, 439 Park St. from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

12 Hour Club grand re-opening

LEWISTON — The 12 Hour Club will celebrate its grand re-opening on Saturday, May 3, at its new location, 675 Main St. Suite 12, in the Marketplace Mall.

The 12 Hour Club has been servicing the Lewiston/Auburn community for 40 years providing support and assistance for those recovering from alcohol and drugs.

Baked bean, spaghetti supper

POWNAL — The North Pownal United Methodist Church, 851 Lawrence Road, will hold a public baked bean and spaghetti supper from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Saturday, May 3.

On the menu are three kinds of beans, spaghetti with meat sauce, potato salad, coleslaw, biscuits and brown bread, pickled beets and assorted homemade pies. Tickets are adults $7, children 4-12 years $3, and three years and under free. Handicap accessible.

SABATTUS — The Knights of Columbus of the Our Lady of the Rosary Parish will sponsor a baked beans and casserole supper from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Saturday, May 3, at Our Lady of the Rosary, 131 High St.

Proceeds will benefit parish programs.

Contributions for the complete supper including desserts and beverages are $7.50 for adults, $3 for children under 12.
