Knitting Guild to meet April 30

PARIS — The Western Maine Knitting Guild will meet at 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 30, at the First Congregational Church, East Main Street, to car pool to Doreen Simmons’ home for a tour of the barn and a visit with the sheep.

A potluck luncheon will follow the tour.

Members should bring a salad, hot dish or dessert to share. Bring your knitting as well.

The meeting will be canceled if school is canceled.

New members are always invited to attend meetings.

Hillside of Flags sale planned

GREENWOOD — Jackson-Silver Post 68 is having its first Hillside of Flags Sale. Flags are “in honor of” or “in remembrance of” a veteran. Cost is $5 per flag.

Tri Town Seniors  held meeting

JAY — Twenty-three members and three guests were present at the meeting of the Tri Town Seniors on April 14 at the St. Rose Parish Hall.

An Easter meal prepared and served by Nancy Couture was the feature of the day. Following the meal Louise Parker entertained the group with karaoke and the Easter Bunny, aka Pat Knowlton, made a special stop with gifts for all.

President Fernande Doiron welcomed everyone and she encouraged the members to attend the supper held at the American Legion in Livermore Falls on April 19. She also spoke about the trip this summer to Bailey Island on Wednesday, July 16, as well as the trip in November to the Beacon Resort. Anyone interested must sign up soon. The trips are organized by the Meadowview Seniors from Lewiston and early sign-up is recommended.

The 50/50 was won by Jacquie Mercier, and seven door prizes were also won by members. Fern reminded everyone that the annual BBQ will be held for the last meeting of this season on May 19.

Vendor craft fair is May 3

Spring rummage sale set for May 3

STRONG — The annual spring rummage sale at the Strong United Methodist Parish House will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, May 3.

There will be a bake sale, candy sale, white elephant table, toys, books, puzzles and lots of rummage.

Luncheon will be served from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

First Saturday book sale, breakfast

WAYNE — A book sale, boutique and breakfast will be held from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, May 3, at the Williams House, 14 Old Winthrop Road.

First Saturday sales at the Williams House feature an ongoing book sale and boutique, with new donations arriving every week. Visit with neighbors and enjoy a cup of coffee or tea, scones or quiche. All proceeds benefit the Cary Memorial Library.

Legion bingo every Saturday

KINGFIELD — American Legion Post 61 will hold bingo every Saturday. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and games begin at 6:30.

Fiddlehead Festival is May 3

FARMINGTON — The Maine Fiddlehead Festival will be held Saturday, May 3, at Emery Community Arts Center grounds, Academy Street.

Events at the free festival will include a farmers market, food vendors, live music, fiddlehead walk, demonstration talks and children’s activities.

Crash Road Band and wine tasting

JAY — Crash Road Band, made up of Don Lesuer, Matt Gilbert, Chris Moreau and Alex Wilbur, will perform Saturday, May 3, at the KC Hall, Route 4. 

A wine tasting will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Cost is $5 per person. A dance will take place from 8 p.m. to midnight for $10 per person. Both tasting and dance: singles $15, couples $25. There will be a cash bar.

Public supper at North Jay Grange

JAY — A public supper will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday, May 3,at North Jay Grange No. 10.

Memoir Writing workshop is May 3

WILTON — A memoir writing workshop, presented by Elizabeth Cooke, will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, May 3, at Wilton Free Public Library.

Our lives can be seen as a series of stories, either chronological or around one topic, or whatever we can devise: we can focus on the single day when life changed, the decade when our experience led us to a life focus, our lives with our families. There are no limits to the shape or subject of a memoir. The goal is to enjoy the exploration of memory and discover what we find, and we always find something.

Participants need only bring pencil or pen, a notebook or paper, memories and a desire to respond to the writing exercises Cooke will provide as a means of getting started.

Cooke taught English and writing for 36 years; she learned to become a writer by teaching her students, of all ages and types, to write. She has published two novels, “Complicity” and “Zeena,” and a work of nonfiction called “Tong Ting Finds a Family,” the story of her adoption of a 2-year-old from China well after her first children were born.

Now that she is retired she is undertaking a writing project, a memoir, about her years in the classroom and the moments from her own life, and how each affected and shaped the other.

Friendship square and round dance

WILTON — The Friendship Squares will host a square and round dance from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, May 4, at the Cushing School.

Pet first aid class set for May 19

NORWAY — Responsible Pet Care will sponsor a Red Cross pet first aid class from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Monday, May 19, at Norway Town Hall, 19 Danforth St.

Class fee of $30 includes a manual. Participants must be at least 16 years old. Register by May 5.

Emphasis will be on dog and cat first aid.
