1949 – 2014

SKOWHEGAN — Janice Joy Walker, 64, passed away Thursday, April 24, at MaineGeneral Medical Center in Augusta.

She was born Oct. 17, 1949, in Rumford, the daughter of Elwin Raymond and Exilda (Bernard) Finethy.

She was educated in local area schools and graduated from Dixfield Regional High School in 1967. On December 1, 1973, she married Stephen Walker at St. Theresa’s Church in Mexico. Janice was employed at SD Warren for 26 years, Maine Dartmouth as a medical receptionist and most recently at MaineGeneral Medical Center Kidney Care until her retirement in 2013.

Janice was affiliated with the Skowhegan-Madison Elks Lodge and the Fraternal Order of the Skowhegan Eagles Club. She enjoyed reading Stephen King novels and going to casinos with friends. She was devoted to her family, cherished time spent with them and with friends and couldn’t wait for summer vacations at Bear Pond.

Her presence was always known. She would have you laughing in seconds with her quick wit and contagious personality that made her unforgettable to those who knew her. She was a beautiful wife, wonderful mother, caring grandmother and a friend that will never be forgotten.

The family would like to expresses their heartfelt thanks to Redington-Fairview General Hospital Oncology Unit and Augusta MaineGeneral Medical Center 2 West Oncology for the compassion and joy brought to Janice during her final days.

Janice is survived by her husband of 40 years, Stephen Walker of Skowhegan; two daughters, Renee Walker and fiancee, Danny Fitzgerald, and family of Skowhegan, Janelle Ingersoll and husband, Christopher, son, Cody Hartsgrove, daughter, Abigayle, all of Moscow; sister, Brenda J. Martin and husband, Kirc, of Sarasota, Fla.; two brothers-in-law, Bob Walker and wife, Joyce, and family of Oregon, James Walker and family of Washington; niece, Amy K. Smith and husband, David, of Kennebuckport; cousins, Janine Bernard and partner, Richard Hackney, of Syracuse, N.Y., Billy Bernard, and Pauline Lefevre.

In lieu of flowers, friends wishing may make donations in Janice’s memory to the Somerset Humane Society, 123 Middle Road, Skowhegan, ME 04976.
