DEAR SUN SPOTS: Thanks for your great help to everyone!

What happened to Thema P., a reporter on Channel 8?

We had an HP printer-fax, which couldn’t be fixed. The new one doesn’t take the same ink cartridges, which expired in 2013, but were never opened. I hate to just throw them away. They are 920XL, 940XL, etc. Could a small business or someone use them?

We have some older cellphones and portable house phones. Didn’t Lewiston High School have a group that was asking for them? — J. Williams, 966-2312

ANSWER: Thema Ponton went to a Milwaukee station, WISN-TV, in November 2013.

Someone will likely call for your cartridges.

As for your phones, Sun Spots recently published an inquiry about sending cellphones to soldiers (http://tinyurl.com/lqymfqj), and in response to that she got the next letter about the Lions Club.

As for landline phones, they are declining in popularity as more people go cellphone only. Sun Spots doesn’t know of any use for them, other than throwing them away or perhaps giving them to the swap shop at your transfer station or other local charities. Perhaps readers have other ideas?

There used to be a program at Lewiston High for computers, but it has been discontinued. If readers know of a landline phone program, please let Sun Spots know.

DEAR MRS. SUN SPOTS: From time to time, readers have inquired as to how they might recycle cellphones. You may be interested to know that the Lions Club has a receptacle at Riverside Eye Care, 245 Center St, Auburn, 207-786-2500. They welcome cellphones, eyeglasses and hearing aids.

We appreciate you, Mrs. Sun Spots, and your column. Thank you for providing us with a vehicle to help one another and, on occasion, sound off about what bugs us. — Gloria Holland, Auburn

ANSWER: Sun Spots is glad to have this information. She has some old hearing aids and glasses that will soon be coming your way.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Just a note. You’re still the best.

In response to the questions about broken cameras, they are very complicated. The manufacturers will do them, but they are expensive.

For simple or oddball items, try the photo shop at Forest Avenue in Portland. They are very good and smart. I get special film there.

For repairs — I have used them twice — Vermont Camera, 3200 U.S. Route 7, Pittsford, VT 05763, 802-483-9357. They are very good, fast and cheap.

Hope this helps. — C.M. Primozich, Norway

ANSWER: Sun Spots looked online for both shops.
