DIXFIELD – The Dixfield Legion of Riders will host its second annual Motorcycle Swap Meet from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, May 10.

Ed Ellis, assistant director of the group, said Monday that the Dixfield Riders had posted over 50 fliers across Western Maine as a means of attracting people to the swap meet.

“We’re still working on getting some groups to the swap meet,” Ellis said. “We put some fliers around Western Maine, and we’re working through the Internet and the press to let people know that we’re holding it again.”

The group started the event to raise money and to contribute to local civilian charities, Ellis said.

“Our swap meet is similar to the one that Saracens Motorcycle Club holds in January,” Ellis said. “The Legion Riders take a small percentage of the funds raised, but we make up our minds later on how to split the funds amongst local civilian groups. It’s just our way of paying it forward.”

Ellis said that it costs $25 to purchase a square outdoors, while a table indoors costs $15.

“If people have parts or accessories they wish to sell or trade, they can use that square to display them,” Ellis said. “If someone has a motorcycle that they wish to sell, they can bring that and try to sell it. If they don’t sell, then they just bring them back home.”

There is also a rain date.

“This year, we made sure to postpone the event to May 17 in the event of bad weather,” Ellis said.
