POLAND — Gray-New Gloucester scored four runs in the sixth inning to rally past Poland in a Western Maine Conference showdown Tuesday.

The Patriots (2-1) produced four singles and a fielder’s choice bunt with two outs in the sixth to overcome a 3-0 deficit.

Stephanie Greaton earned the win for Gray-New Gloucester. She struck out eight, walked just three and allowed six hits. Kolby Woods struck out eight and walked none for Poland. She allowed just five hits.

Poland (2-2) scored twice in the fourth and added another run in the fifth for the 3-0 lead.

Mountain Valley 12, Monmouth 5

RUMFORD —  Lindsay Marston had a home run and pitched a complete game in Mountain Valley’s 12-5 victory over Monmouth in softball action. Her battery mate Katie Collette had three hits including a double.  Katie Mills, Samantha Higley and Shannon Laubauskas also had a double.

Sabrina Beck led Monmouth’s offense with two hits including a double. Shannon Buzzell, Kylie and Krystin Kemp each had a double.

Mountain Valley improves to 2-1 on the season while Monmouth drops their first game of the season.

Bangor 8, Mt. Blue 1

BANGOR —  Emily Reilly scattered four hits, struck out eight and walked one  as Bangor beat Mt. Blue in KVAC softball Tuesday. It was the first win of the season for the Rams.

Alexis Stanhope singled twice and drove in two runs, including one in Bangor’s six-run third inning. Sydni Cosgrove and Kyle Cunningham each provided two singles and an RBI.

Destiny Nelson hit an RBI single to plate the lone run for Mt. Blue (1-2).

Baseball

Monmouth 22, Mountain Valley 0

RUMFORD — The Monmouth Mustangs scored 15 runs in the top of the first and cruised to a 22-0 victory over Mountain Valley.

Brandon Goff had a home run and a double to spark the Mustangs offense. Brett Wilson, Jariah Caissie, Kyle Fletcher, Alex Curtis and Nick Sanborn also had multiple hits on the afternoon.

Monmouth improves to 2-0 while Mountain Valley falls to 0-3.

POLAND — Jake Simard had three hits and drove in three runs to lead Poland to a 6-2 win over Gray-New Gloucester in Western Maine Conference baseball Tuesday.

Bill Bickford added a pair of hits for the Knights (3-0). Kaleb Bridgham and Matt Rabasco each had a hit and drove in a run.

Simard earned the win, pitching five innings, allowing one hit and striking out five.

The Patriots (2-1) got two hits from Justin McKenna. Brandon Hubbard had a hit and drove in a run.

Tyler St. Pierre pitched six innings for Gray-NG in the loss, allowing just three earned run.

Poland scored three runs in the first inning and then added single runs in the third, fourth and sixth. The Patriots got their only runs in the sixth.

Bangor 7, Mt. Blue 0

BANGOR — Trevor Delaite hurled six shutout innings and allowed just two hits to blank Mt. Blue 7-0 in KVAC baseball Tuesday.

Bangor (1-1) produced 13 hits.  Jordan Derrah and Andrew Hillier each had three.  Kyle Stevenson and Ryan Brookings had two hits apiece. Justin Courtney worked a hitless seventh.

Ryan Pratt and Cam Abbott singled for the Cougars (1-2).
