1936 – 2014
RUMFORD — Ronald W. “Mac” McIntire, 77, of Mexico, died unexpectedly Sunday afternoon, April 27, at Rumford Community Hospital.
He was born in Strong on Aug. 19, 1936, a son of Maurice M. and Florence (Heath) McIntire. He attended and graduated from Dixfield schools in 1954. After graduation, Mac enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served from 1955 to 1958. Upon his return from the service, he briefly worked at the Boise Cascade mill in Rumford as a welder and later worked construction, driving trucks.
As a young man, he enjoyed fishing and most recently working in his yard and tending to his tomato plants. He was a life member of numerous organizations, including the Rumford American Legion, Lane Dube AMVETS Post in Livermore Falls, Rumford VFW, Rumford Elks Lodge, Rumford Eagles Club, Le Paresseux Snowshoe Club in Rumford, King Hiram Masonic Lodge in Mexico and the Kora Shrine.
He is survived by close friends and caregivers, Dwight Briggs and his wife, Susan, of Mexico, John MacKinnon of Peru, Henry Desroches of Dixfield, Wendall Farnum of Rumford, Al Cyr of Bangor, Harold Wilson of Dixfield and his many Legion friends.
He was predeceased by a friend, Carroll Wilson.
