RUMFORD — A mother and her 4-year-old son were taken to a hospital after a car-truck collision at Franklin Avenue and Plymouth Street on Wednesday afternoon, Rumford police Sgt. James Bernard said.

Bernard said Arthur Chappell, 56, of Rumford was driving a pickup truck north on Franklin Avenue and Hylie Sweetser, 34, of Rumford was driving a car west on Plymouth Street and the vehicles collided at the intersection.

“Chappell said that he didn’t realize until too late that there was another car entering the intersection,” Bernard said.

Sweetser and her 4-year-old son were taken to Rumford Hospital after a complaint of pain and discomfort.

Chappell was not injured, Bernard said.

No traffic tickets were issued, he said.

Both vehicles were towed by Adley’s.

The Rumford Fire Department responded to the scene, along with Med-Care and Rumford Police Department.
