PARIS — Combine a love of cooking, nutrition and helping others by becoming a University of Maine Cooperative Extension Eat Well volunteer.

The training will be held from 1 to 4:30 p.m. Mondays, May 5 to June 23 (excluding Memorial Day), at the Oxford County UMaine Extension office, 9 Olson Road.

The hands-on training prepares participants to present live cooking demonstrations at various sites in Oxford County. After 30 hours of training, participants will work in teams to encourage audience members to increase their consumption of fresh vegetables by demonstrating and serving easy-to-prepare, low-cost recipes.

Participants learn to how to teach basic cooking techniques and answer questions on topics such as shopping on a budget and fitting cooking into a busy day.

Cost for the training is $50 a person, with limited scholarships available. For more information, to preregister or to request a disability accommodation, contact the Oxford County Extension office, 743-6329.

UMaine Extension helps support, sustain and grow the food-based economy. It also conducts an out-of-school youth educational program through 4-H.
