The Union Soldier on the Civil War Monument in Kennedy Park in Lewiston was re-armed today. Recently his bayonet was discovered missing. Police learned that a 12-year-old youngster, noting that it was bent, climbed up on the statue to fix it and it broke off in the process. He was frightened so he ran away and hid the bayonet under a porch. It was returned to official hands and was straightened out by the Lewiston Public Works Department. This morning PWD employee Lucien Couture made the climb to the statue and replaced the bayonet.
