1923 – 2014

AUBURN — Patria M. Summers, 90, of Montello Heights in Lewiston and formerly of Tampa, Fla., passed away on Sunday, April 27, at the Hospice House, with her loving family by her side.

Born in Barranquitas, Puerto Rico, on Dec. 9, 1923, she was one of 16 children. She grew up and was educated on the island. In 1945, she met her husband, Harold, on the U.S. Naval base in Puerto Rico; they married in 1946. In 1947, they moved to the U.S. mainland.

Her husband traveled the world with the U.S. Navy, while Pat and her three sons moved frequently around the country, following her husband’s military orders. She was a strong, intelligent lady, who held a lot of prestigious jobs throughout her life, raising her boys alone while her husband was in the Navy.

In 1990, her husband, Harold, became a quadriplegic and was in and out of hospitals and the Veterans Nursing Home in Tampa, Fla., until he passed away in 2009. She stood proud through it all, always researching options and treatments for her husband. She moved to Maine to be near her son, Mark, and his family in 2009, after Harold passed away. She was a unique lady who will be missed by many.

She is survived by her two sons, Mark (Debbie) of Litchfield and Paul (Cathy) of Somerville, N.J.; sister, Blanquita, of Puerto Rico; eight grandchildren, Billy, Patricia, Melanie, Natalie, Marybeth, Christina, Laura and Lisa; nine great-grandchildren; and many special nieces and nephews scattered around the country.

She was also predeceased by her son, David, in March.
