1956 – 2014

AUBURN — Stephen A. Provencher, 57, of Tucker Street in Mexico, died Tuesday, April 29, at the Hospice House, with his loving family by his side.

He was born in Rumford on July 28, 1956, a son of Harold and Harriet (Bartlett) Provencher. He graduated from Mexico High School, Class of 1974, and attended Central Maine Vocational Technical Institute in Auburn.

Stephen was an electrician and worked in construction for many years. He was a communicant of Parish of the Holy Savior, St. Athanasius-St. John Church, and a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles. He enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing, and was an avid fan of the Yankees and Raiders.

He was married in Rumford on Nov. 15, 1981, to Janet Ann Flaherty, who survives of Mexico. Other survivors include daughters, Erin Provencher of Lewiston and Yaicha Provencher and fiancé, Justin Butterfield, of Poland; sisters, Becky Scott and husband, Bill, of Peru, Sis Hanes and husband, Don, of Mexico and Brenda Desrouche and husband, Bub, of Dixfield; a brother, Bummy Provencher and companion, Linda, of Rumford; grandchildren, Domante and Amiya Powell of Lewiston, Christel MacFarlan and Harlan Butterfield of Poland; a special mother-in-law, Yvette Flaherty, of Rumford; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents and brothers, Harold and Leroy Provencher.
