NORWAY — AMVETS Post 777 is asking area residents to enjoy a meal that is both filling and fulfilling during a “Dining to Donate” fundraiser next week for the newly-formed service organization.

The event is set for 4 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, May 7, at Applebee’s on Main Street in Oxford. It is one in a series of fundraisers the Post hopes will set the financial foundation for their future.

“This will get us started,” Commander Ron Snow said. The money will help establish activities such as bingo and student scholarships. Other fundraisers include a lobster bake in June and a pig roast in August.

AMVETS Post 777 received its charter in December and has about 14 members. It is actively recruiting more veterans who may be unaware of the organization.

Snow said the AMVETS will be housed with the Paris VFW with a long-range goal of providing a home for itself.

Snow said participants at “Dining to Donate” can obtain a coupon to present to their server by emailing Ron at amvetsnorway@yahoo.com or call Ron at 207-744-9156. The restaurant will donate 15 percent of the proceeds to the AMVETS.

AMVETS, a national veterans and community service organization, provides outreach and support to veterans and their families through a variety of initiatives.

Membership in AMVETS is available to any person who has served or is serving in the armed forces, including the Army, the Navy, the Marines, the Air Force, the National Guard and the reserves since 1940.
