Norway — Franklin I. “Big Frank” Strout Sr., 69, Of West Poland died unexpectedly on Friday, May 2, at Stephens Memorial Hospital.

He was born in Poland on Aug. 22, 1944, the son of Alton and Doris Emery Strout. He attended Poland Schools before joining the Navy and serving aboard the USS Krishna for one year during the Vietnam War. He worked on Williard Stone’s Chicken Farm as a teenager, worked in many textile and manufacturing jobs, worked for the Paris Police Department and the Androscoggin County Sheriff, was a plumber, logger and animal control officer. He was one of the original members of Poland Fire and Rescue and was the vice president and Santa for the Santa Comes to Poland Committee. He was known for having a very distinctive voice. He also loved to go camping, hunting and fishing.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia Hahn Strout; daughter Dale Bartlett and her husband, Ray, of Poland, son Frank Strout Jr. and his wife, Kelly, of Poland, son Frederick Strout and his wife, Heidi, of Poland, daughter Julie Morneau of Poland, son Edward Strout of Poland; two step-children Julie Hodgkins and James Varney; 16 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Carlene Gray of Poland and Grace Winslow of Casco; and his dog Lucy.

He is predeceased by his first wife, Beryle F. Strout; son Scott Strout; and sister Edith Ann.
