AUGUSTA — The Maine Sports Hall of Fame has nine new members, including former U.S. Sen. George Mitchell.
Mitchell, a Waterville native, was honored at Sunday’s induction ceremony in Augusta both for his basketball achievements in high school and at Bowdoin College, but also for his sports accomplishments off the playing field, including a steroid investigation into major League baseball.
The other inductees were Olympic luger Julia Clukey of Augusta; former University of Maine quarterback and current coach Jack Cosgrove of Orono; Olympic rower Eleanor Logan of Boothbay Harbor; University of Southern Maine baseball coach Ed Flaherty of Portland; golf champion Abby Spector of Waterville; broadcaster Bill Green of Cumberland; former University of Maine pitcher Joseph Ferris of Brewer; and former Stearns High School basketball standout Steven Pound of Greenville.
