NORWAY — The Norway Memorial Library will host its annual chocolate tasting from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday, May 9. Those attending can taste a variety of desserts and vote for their favorites.

Library director Beth Kane said the idea for a chocolate tasting began four years ago after the Friends of Norway Memorial Library started looking for a way to “fun-raise” or “friend-raise.”

“The Friends of Norway Memorial Library have always done a lot of fundraising for the library and held a lot of different events,” Kane said, “but they started looking for fun events for residents to participate in that didn’t cost any money.”

The chocolate tasting is free to the public, but tickets at the library are required to enter.

“Right now, there are no tickets, but we always keep a wait-list on hand for people,” Kane said. “If someone isn’t able to make it, we make sure to contact those on the list to make sure as many people can get in as possible. We just can’t safely fit in as many people as we’d like.”

Originally, members of Friends of Norway Memorial Library, library employees and library trustees baked chocolate desserts and provided them to residents.

“Now, we’ve allowed residents to bring in their own desserts,” Kane said. “People get to vote on their favorite desserts, and whoever wins will get a prize.”
