PARIS — The annual Wildflower Celebration at the McLaughlin Garden takes place to celebrate Bernard McLaughlin’s wildflower plantings, including white trilliums that now form a carpet of spring flowers. Special events begin on May 9, National Public Garden Day.
During Mother’s Day weekend, May 9-11, the celebration hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. During the weekend a self-guided botanical scavenger hunt will be ongoing and garden tours will be held at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Friday through Sunday. The annual plant sale starts on Friday and will be ongoing through the season.
The historic barn is also the site of ongoing art shows. This season celebrates the work of poet and photographer Dan Trowbridge, the garden’s assistant gardener. A reception honoring his work will begin at 5 p.m. on May 9.
Some think that blooms in the wildflower lane are the most beautiful time in the garden. It is free to visit and see the spring beauty. Donations are welcome for the ongoing needs of the property. The McLaughlin Garden and Homestead are at 97 Main St., South Paris.
