ORONO — A dog and two kayakers are safe after a dip into the frigid waters of Pushaw Lake late Wednesday afternoon.
The episode began shortly after 5:30 p.m., when a dog got stranding in the lake while trying to fetch a boat mooring, Orono fire Capt. Scott Luciano said Wednesday night. Shortly afterward, two people who took to their kayaks in an effort to rescue the dog capsized, he said.
The Orono Fire Department was called to rescue the three, but the dog and the kayakers, whose names were not available, managed to get back to shore on their own. The kayakers were evaluated by emergency medical personnel but did not require a trip to the hospital, Luciano said.
