RUMFORD — The Hope Association is inviting a local farm to set up a petting zoo in their parking lot for their fourth annual craft fair from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, May 10, with all proceeds going towards helping the organization be involved with the Maine Special Olympics.

Sally Theriault, an employee with the Hope Association, said that the petting zoo is a new addition to the organization’s craft fair and will be organized by a farm in Dixfield.

“I’m not 100 percent sure what sorts of animals they’ll be bringing,” Theriault said, “but I do know that they’re bringing animals from their farm and that the petting zoo will be set up in the parking lot of the Hope Association.”

There will also be a shuttle bus going back and forth from the Hope Association to downtown Rumford, where the annual Lumberjack Festival is being held.

“This year, we decided to have a shuttle back and forth from the festival, so people don’t have to choose between one event or the other.” Theriault said. “We’ll be using the Hope Association buses for that.”

Among the other events being held include a cookie walk, a variety of kids games, a face painting table, crafts tables and a car wash, which will be weather permitting.

The money raised from the craft fair will go towards funding trips to Special Olympics events throughout the state.

“It’s helping us pay the cost for our team to participate in these events,” Theriault said.
