CHESTERVILLE — Firefighters responded early Friday to a woods fire on a walking path leading to a popular fishing spot on Robinson Pond, fire Chief Edward Hastings IV said.
The cause of the fire is suspicious, he said. Maine forest rangers are investigating.
A person driving by the pond, located off Borough Road, reported the fire at 2:27 a.m.
The fire started in the brush and headed towards the woods in the heavily wooded area, he said. An area about 50 feet by 100 feet along the edge of the water was burned.
When Hastings arrived at the scene, there were flames showing, he said. Eight firefighters responded and put the fire out quickly.
