BAR HARBOR — A woman crossed the center line and sideswiped an oncoming car when she swatted a bee on her leg, police reported Sunday.

The second car, a 2003 Honda, spun around in the road, while the vehicle that crossed the center line, a 1998 Toyota, went off the road and hit a utility pole, which snapped at the top, police Sgt. Shaun Farrar reported.

The accident took place on Route 102 a short distance north of Gilbert Farm Road about 10:20 a.m., Farrar said.

The driver of the car that was sideswiped, a woman, 87, of Tremont, complained of pain in her face and was transported to Mount Desert Island Hospital.

The 18-year-old Sullivan woman who swatted at the bee complained of abdominal pain but but did not require medical treatment.
