1956 – 2014

TURNER — Brian “Barney” R. Ames Sr., 58, of Turner, lost his battle with lung cancer at his home on Monday evening, May 12, with his wife and daughters at his bedside.

He was born in Attleboro, Mass., on May 7, 1956, a son of the late Alfred and Lorraine (Pittsley) Ames. He grew up on Cape Cod, graduating from Barnstable High School in 1975, and moved to Maine in the early 1980s when he fell in love with the “Maine way of life.” He met his wife, Linda, and they married on Sept. 15, 1984, in Turner. Together, they created a life full of family, friends and love. For over 32 years, Brian worked as a truck driver for Coca-Cola Co., and enjoyed his time with them.

Barney was known by many and loved by all. He was most known for his grand stature and even larger personality, always with a story or joke to share. He was a lover of outdoor activities; he enjoyed hunting and fishing. Barney always liked spending time at his camp in Eustis, where he would go four-wheeling and snowmobiling.

He is survived by his wife, Linda Ames, of Turner; and his children, Brian Jr. and his wife, Kylee, of Arlington, Va., Jessica Ames and her boyfriend, Brian, of Sidney and Bethany Ames and her fiancé, Nathan, of Turner. Barney also leaves behind two grandsons, Connor and Colby; as well as his siblings, Jacqueline Capute and her husband, Deborah French and her husband and Kevin Ames and his wife; his father-in-law, Arlen Jordan; sister-in-law, Alison Durgin and her husband; brother-in-law, Ken Jordan and his wife; along with many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his mother-in-law, Diane Jordan, of Turner.

The Ames’ family wishes to extend their deepest gratitude to Dr. Pandey and the staff of Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice.
