GREENE — On May 7, the Town of Greene Board of Selectmen presented Helen L. Johnson, Greene’s oldest citizen, the Boston Post Cane at Sarah Frye Home in Auburn.
Helen was born in Greene on March 24, 1921. She just celebrated her 93rd birthday.
Helen married Howard E Johnson. Howard passed away on May 18, 2004. Helen enjoyed being a homemaker while raising their three children, Howard Jr., Ronald and Brenda. She has five grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter. Helen and Howard lived on Sawyer Road where she gardened and raised beautiful flowers. Helen is also a member of Eastern Star.
Helen enjoyed the presentation. Along with her children, some of her grandchildren were present. Ronald Grant, chairman of the Board of Selectmen, read a brief history of the Boston Post Cane, Donald Bedford presented her with the Boston Post Cane and Anthony Reny with the inscribed plaque. Sally Ann Hebert and Michael Stephenak photographed the entire event.
