BETHEL — The Bethel Area Nonprofit Collaborative will host a informational fair from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, May 29, at the Bethel Historical Society in an effort to teach the public about how the different organizations have helped the community.

Network facilitator Amy Scott said that the BANC hosted a similar fair for Telstar High School students in the fall of 2013.

“For that particular event, we brought the students at Telstar together to show them the different organizations we had in the area,” Scott said. “The organizations were focused on community service and independent study opportunities and one-time volunteer events.

“The fair on May 29 is meant to be more for the general public,” Scott said. “All of the member organizations of the collaboration are going to share the different volunteer opportunities they have coming up and the projects that they’re working on.”

Refreshments will be served at the May 29 event, Scott said, and the member organizations will be presenting different projects that they’ve worked on.

Scott added that the fall event with the high school students was “very successful” and that she hopes to make the information fairs an annual event.

“We’ll see how the upcoming fair goes with the general public, but my hope is to do an event in the fall with high school students, and hold another one in the spring on an annual basis,” Scott said. “We’re still a fairly new organization, so we’re waiting to see how it goes.”
