SALEM — Arthur Ryan belted an RBI single in the third inning to give Mt. Abram a 3-2 victory over Mountain Valley in a soggy MVC baseball tilt Monday.
Ryan also picked up the mound win for the Roadrunners (4-7), giving up six hits in six innings of work. Hunter York had a pair of hits, while Sol Fast belted a double.
The Falcons (2-9) were paced by Tom Marshall with two hits, while Tucker Rowland belted out a double.
Dirigo 3, Spruce Mountain 0
DIXFIELD — Gavin Arsenault threw a one-hitter and used only 53 pitches, helping dispatch Spruce Mountain with a 3-0 victory in a fast baseball game Monday.
John McKenna also went the distance for the Phoenix (5-5).
The Cougars (9-1) picked up their three runs in the fourth and sixth innings. Kaine Hutchins tripled and catcher Tyler Frost singled twice and drove in a run. Scott Hall had the only hit for Spruce Mountain.
Softball
Dirigo 22, Spruce Mountain 4
DIXFIELD — A high scoring first inning propelled a hot Dirigo offense to cruise to a 22-4 victory over Spruce Mountain in softball on Monday.
Fifteen runs in the first frame of action gave Dirigo a good buffer to hold on and wrap the game up in just five innings.
Spruce Mountain pitching surrendered a total of 13 walks on the afternoon, most of them coming off the scored runs in the first inning.
Katelyn Olsen struck out five batters and received the win pitching for the Cougars (6-3). Emma Lueders went 3-for-4 to lead the Dirigo bats.
Grace Ryan notched a double and a single for the Phoenix, who drop to 4-6 on the season.
Mountain Valley 19, Mt. Abram 4
SALEM — Shannon Laubauskis launched a home run to go along with a single to give Mountain Valley the edge as the Falcons cruised to a 19-4 victory over Mt. Abram in MVC softball action.
Twelve errors riddled the Mt. Abram defense, as the Falcons tallied 19 runs in six innings. Lindsay Marston held all Mt. Abram hitters to just four hits on four runs, as Mountain Valley jumps to 8-3 on the season with the victory.
Jacey Davenport scattered a pair of hits as well for the Roadrunners (2-9).
Boys’ lacrosse
St. Dom’s 11, Oxford Hills 6
PARIS — Austin Roy and Matt Chasse combined for six goals, netting a hat-trick each, for St. Dom’s who stepped past Oxford Hills 11-6 in a boys’ lacrosse matchup on Monday.
The Saints utilized five other scorers to tally the five goals on the afternoon. Keeper Alex Michaud hauled in nine saves for St. Dom’s, who jumps to 3-3 on the season with the victory. Ian Lejonhud led all scorers with four goals for the Vikings (0-8).
Portland 13, Oak Hill 2
WALES — Mike Fuller and John Boyd led the scoring effort for Portland, hurling in four goals apiece, as Portland ran to a 13-2 victory over Oak Hill in boys’ lacrosse on Monday afternoon.
Nate Martin allowed just two goals in net for the Bulldogs (3-4), while stopping 10 shots. Luigi Grimaldi netted three goals and added an assist on the day.
For Oak Hill (3-5), Kyle Flaherty netted the Raiders’ only goals on the day, while Matty Martin shut down12 shots in net.
Girls’ lacrosse
Lewiston 11, Biddeford 4
BIDDEFORD — Sierra Thistlewaite launched five goals into the back of the net for the Blue Devils as they stormed past Biddeford 11-4 in girls’ lacrosse action.
Laurianne Murphy netted a pair of goals to go along with three assisits for Lewiston (5-2). Kristina Blais notched a goal with three assists as well, while Sam Cote turned back 16 shots in net for the Blue Devils.
Julie Morin tallied two goals for the Tigers (4-2) and Savannah Jones recorded 18 saves.
