GARDINER — Josh Daigle crossed home plate with the winning run off a Sam Godfrey single as Leavitt edged Gardiner 5-4 in walk-off fashion.

The Leavitt offense was held scoreless until the sixth inning, where it rallied for four runs to take a lead. Gardiner answered back to tie things up in the final frame, but came up short. Daigle and Godfrey led the offensive attack with a pair of hits each for the Hornets (4-6).

Mitchel Davis received the win on the mound. Josh McKelvey threw six strong innings for the Tigers, who drop to 2-9 on the season.

Poland 11, York 0

POLAND — A well-rounded attack coupled with a strong pitching effort aided Poland as they closed out York 11-0 in a five-inning baseball contest.

Lukas Johnson went the distance, allowing just four hits while striking out six batters. Johnson, Bill Bickford and Shawn Murphy led the way on offense, batting in two runs apiece. Johnson scattered three hits on the afternoon, two of which were doubles for the Knights (8-2).

Derek Neal wrapped a double for the Wildcats (7-4), while Trevor Labonte received the loss on the mound.

Softball

Telstar 2, Madison 0

MADISON — Jessica Dirago spun a two-hit shutout Tuesday, striking out 10 Madison hitters to lead Telstar to a 2-0 win over the previously unbeaten Bulldogs.

Becca Howard had one of two Telstar (7-2) hits, a double that drove in Aislinn Forbes in the fourth inning. Later in the inning, Dirago ripped a single to score the other Rebels run.

Emily McKenney pitched well for Madison (10-1) despite the loss, also dealing 10 strikeouts and allowing just two hits.

Oak Hill 4, Winthrop 2

WALES — Sophomore Makayla Nadeau delivered seven innings of two-hit softball in her varsity debut to propel Oak Hill to a 4-2 victory over Winthrop in girls’ softball action.

Nadeau and catcher Emma Hlister worked well together, retiring seven Ramblers on the day. Hlister went 2-for-3 at the plate, launching a triple and a single for the Raiders (6-5). Grace Sabine chipped in a double as well.

Winthrop’s Kristen Doughty took the loss pitching, as the Ramblers picked up just their third loss on the season at 7-3.

Gardiner 8, Leavitt 4

TURNER — Gardiner broke open a tight game with four runs in the top of the seventh to earn an 8-4 win over Leavitt in Class B softball action Tuesday.

Lilly Chepke drilled a two-run triple in the top of the seventh inning to get the offense rolling and keep Gardiner’s loss column clean, as the Tigers remained undefeated at 11-0. Gardiner’s Bri Brochu, Kate Boyington and Nicole Chadwick all scattered a pair of hits to pace the offense.

Angela Daigle and Kaitlyn Deblois recorded a double each for the Hornets (6-4), while Abbie Robertson received the loss pitching.

York 4, Poland 2

POLAND — Steph Rundlett tossed nine strikeouts in a pitching duel, as York edged past Poland for their first win of the season, 4-2.

Rundlett surrendered just one walk on two hits, while helping her own efforts at the plate with a double and a single. Hannah Brown chipped in two hits for the Wildcats, who moved to 1-9. Michaella Arsenault and Madison Simard notched a triple and a double respectively for the Knights (6-6).

Kylie Martin struck out seven batters in the losing effort for Poland.

Rangeley, Rangeley split

RANGELEY — Taylor Esty shut down the Vinalhaven offense, striking out 13 batters on just three hits, as Rangeley edges past Vinalhaven 3-2 in the first game of a Class D West softball doubleheader.

Esty complimented her own efforts with a home run at the plate, while stroking a single as well. Michaela Shorey chipped in a double as well for Rangeley, who picks up their first win on the season.

In game two of the doubleheader, Taylor Littlefield and Gilleyanne Davis-Oakes came through on offense, as Vinalhaven overwhelmed Rangeley 16-9.

Littlefield smacked two triples, while Davis-Oakes cranked a home run and a single. Bailey Wadleigh paced the Vikings (5-3) with a double and a single.

Rangeley hit well on the day nevertheless, with Taylor Esty picking up her second home run of the day, to go along with a double of her own.

Girls’ Lacrosse

Mt. Ararat 15, Edward Little 3

TOPSHAM — Mt. Ararat had 10 different goal-scorers in a balanced attack to cruise to a 15-3 victory over Edward Little in girls’ lacrosse action Tuesday.

Emily Welch led all Eagles scorers with three goals for the hat trick. Carly Raymond, Eva Jerome and Sierra Gilley all netted a pair of goals for the Eagles, as they jump to 3-4 on the season.

Francesca-Beth Haines tallied all three goals for the Red Eddies (0-6), while Rianna Roewer turned back seven shots in net.
