TOPSHAM — Following a report that missing Topsham teen Matthew Plutchak was seen Tuesday night on Main Street, local police, firefighters and the Maine Warden Service called off a search they launched Wednesday morning.

Matthew Plutchak, 16, of 244 Parliament Circle, was reported missing just before 11 p.m. Tuesday, Topsham Police Lt. Mark LaFountain confirmed.

Plutchak reportedly told friends on Tuesday night that he planned to head out onto trails behind his home, possibly to camp out. He said he planned to return home Wednesday or Thursday, but had not done so as of 11 a.m. Wednesday.

Topsham police, game wardens and a search dog from the Bath Fire Department searched trails in the area Wednesday morning, but called off the search at about noon after receiving a positive confirmation that someone saw Plutchak on Main Street at about 10:30 p.m. Tuesday.
