Tom Bragg, left, and Rob Towle of Stone Age Masonry stop for a quick measurement while repairing the garage at the Woman’s Literary Union in Auburn on Wednesday. According to Bill Hamilton, an architect from Joy and Hamilton working on the project and also a board member of the WLU, water seeping down the walls had led to rot in the floor joists, sill and studs. “Everything holding the building up had gone to dust,” Hamilton said of the structure that was built between 1914 and 1917. “Because of the extensive damage, this weekend’s garage sale has become a yard sale. I told them to move it all out on the steps,” Hamilton said.
