BANGOR — A wanted man was caught Sunday by police after he decided to take a pellet gun to a park and a neighbor complained, Bangor police Sgt. Rob Angelo said.
William Scott, 23, who is listed as a transient, was arrested on an outstanding warrant for unpaid fines, the sergeant said.
“He was shooting a pellet gun at Second Street Park,” Angelo said. “Don’t shoot a pellet gun at Second Street Park if you have a warrant.”
A neighbor of the park located behind Shaw’s grocery store called police shortly after noon Sunday to report Scott, who reportedly told the neighbor he had called police and received permission to shoot the pellet gun.
No permission was given by police, since discharging firearms within city limits is prohibited. City rules state that firearms are any weapon, whether loaded or unloaded, that will expel a projectile by the action of an explosive, and includes any such weapons commonly referred to as a “pellet gun,” “pistol,” “revolver,” “rifle,” “gun” or “shotgun.”
Scott was taken to Penobscot County Jail and remained there early Sunday evening, a jail official said.
