1927 – 2014

SKOWHEGAN — Jessie Marie Wing, 87, of Dixfield, passed away peacefully on Tuesday morning, May 20, at Redington Memorial Home in Skowhegan, where she had resided for the past two weeks.

She was born in Skowhegan on Jan. 10, 1927, a daughter of William and Elsie (Littlefield) Steward. She attended schools in Skowhegan and on May 1, 1948, married Alton Wing; he predeceased her on Oct. 29, 2011. In the early years of their marriage, they enjoyed dancing; her favorite was the jitterbug.

In her younger years, she was employed at the spinning mill in Skowhegan. In addition to being a devoted homemaker, she also worked outside of the home and took great pride in serving the Dixfield school system as a cook, working in both the middle and high school cafeterias; she was well-known for her homemade yeast rolls, spaghetti sauce and other personal recipes that she lovingly shared with the students and staff. She also was noted for her custard pies and doughnuts.

She was a member of the Dixfield American Legion Auxiliary. In her retirement, she enjoyed watching cooking shows and QVC.

Jessie is survived by three daughters, Barbara Moody and her husband, Reggie, of Madison, Carol Colby and her husband, Paul, of Auburn and Penny Lane and her husband, David, of Gettysburg, Pa.; four grandchildren, Melissa “Colby” Newcomb and her husband, Shawn; Matthew Colby and his wife, Misty; Carrie “Lane” Gueydan and her husband, Jesse, and Nathan Lane and his wife, Brianna; five great-grandchildren, Wyatt Lane, Bailey Lane, Lili Gueydan, Izaiah Gueydan and Layla Colby; and three brothers, Percy Steward of Canaan, Ernest Steward and his wife, Kay, of Manchester and Philip Steward of Skowhegan.

In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by a brother, Paul Steward; and sisters, Mildred Leo, Dorothy LeClair and Shirley Sawyer.
