Complaints have been made to the Lewiston police regarding autoists who are careless when driving by the Central Maine General Hospital. As the machines make the grade going up Main street they open up the engine exhausts to gain more power, and at the same time they create more or less a disturbance. The noise of the engines is plainly heard in the hospital, and in the case of nervous patients, or those for whom sleep is especially desired, is particularly annoying. “I have received no less than three complaints in the last two days,” said Deputy Chief Davis, yesterday, “and while we have no ordinance under which we can act, I am sure that those who are creating the disturbance would be more careful if they stopped to think a moment.”

A man stood outside the Lewiston Public Library shaking his head. “I was just sitting there reading the paper,” he told a newsman. “I had no idea they closed up at 5:30.” It was five minutes after 6 o’clock and the man, a 54-year-old Portland resident, had just been freed from confinement inside the library. He had gotten locked in, is what happened. It was a somewhat shattering experience for the gentleman, who was in town looking for a job and he walked into the Park Street library during the afternoon. A few minutes alter closing time, there he was on the inside, knocking on the window to attract attention. He wanted out. He said he definitely did not fall asleep reading the paper. No, Sir.
