1920 – 2014
NORWAY — Wilbur H. Coolidge, 94, of Poland, died Friday evening, May 23, at Stephens Memorial Hospital.
He was born in Derry, N.H., on Jan. 5, 1920, the son of William C. and Adelaide E. Gester Coolidge. Wilbur attended Mechanic Falls High School and faithfully served his country in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II.
While in the military, he completed a course of aeronautics engine mechanics and after the war, he worked for ARC on Mount Washington testing jet engines. He then worked at Pratt-Whitney in Connecticut. Wilbur retired in 1986, after 20 years at Pioneer Plastics.
He was a member of Orient Lodge No. 62 AF and AM in East Hartford, Conn. Wilbur had his single-engine pilot’s license, and also enjoyed flying model planes and building canoes.
On April 25, 1953, he married Alice White; she died on Nov. 24, 2004.
Wilbur is survived by his daughter, Joyce Cass and her sons, Ben and Billy; his son, Jeff and his wife, Verna, and their children, Stephanie, Matt, Heather, Kyle and his wife, Patricia, and Katie; and great-grandchildren, Mystik, Ava and Luke.
