1923 – 2014
AUBURN — Marine G. Veilleux, 90, of Lewiston, died Sunday, May 25, at the Androscoggin Hospice House, with her family by her side following a short illness.
She was born in Lewiston on Oct. 10, 1923, a daughter of the late Lucien and Florence (O’Connor) Gagne, and had been a resident of this community all of her life. She was educated in Lewiston schools and was a graduate of Lewiston High School, Class of 1942. She married Laurent E. Veilleux on Feb. 6, 1946; he died on Jan. 30, 2012.
Marine was employed at Central Maine Medical Center as a switchboard operator for many years, until her retirement in 1984. She was a parishioner of the former St. Joseph’s Church and recently a parishioner of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, Sacred Heart Church in Auburn.
Marine was an animal lover and had pets her entire life. Her family was everything to her. She was proud of all their accomplishments. She enjoyed traveling across the United States with her daughter, son-in-law and grandsons for many years, when she was not hosting the entire family at Popham Beach.
She is survived by one daughter, Marine Shea and her husband, Rick, of Lewiston; two sons, Gary Veilleux and his wife, Lynne, of Augusta and George Veilleux of Lewiston; five grandchildren, Michelle, Marianne and Michael Veilleux, Joshua Shea and his wife, Melissa, and Patrick Shea; one stepgrandson, Timothy Sawyer; two great-grandchildren, Katrielle Lambert and Kaden Shea; two sisters, Helena Law of Augusta and Beulah Smith of Lewiston; one brother-in-law, Marcel Toutain, of Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents and her husband, she was predeceased by a sister, Violet Chaplin.
