NEW VINEYARD — A local woman is accused of threatening to kill her 12-year-old child and her husband, Franklin County Sheriff Scott Nichols Sr. said Wednesday.

Sherry M. Gray, 34, of New Vineyard was arrested Tuesday on domestic violence charges of aggravated assault, criminal terrorizing with a weapon and criminal threatening, he said.

The child told a teacher Tuesday that he was afraid to go home, Nichols said.

The child told deputies that his mother sat with her knees on his chest and he couldn’t breathe, Nichols said. Another disclosure to deputies was the mother tried to choke her child, he said.

Gray is accused of threatening her husband with a knife, he said.

Deputies Andrew Morgan and Kevin Hartley went to the home and were assisted by Detective Stephen Charles, Lt. Detective David St. Laurent and Deputy Sandy Burke in the investigation.

Gray made some disclosures to police and was arrested and taken to Franklin County Jail, Nichols said.

A Farmington judge set her bail Wednesday at personal recognizance with the condition she enter into a pretrial contract within 48 hours, a corrections officer said. She is also prohibited with having contact with her child.

The child stayed with a family member Tuesday night.
