1936 – 2014

LEWISTON — George A. Sanford Jr., 77, of Lewiston, died at his residence on Tuesday, May 27, 2014, following a short illness.

He was born in Panama, South America, on June 24, 1936, the son of the late George A. Sr. and Venveranda (Daiz) Sanford, and had been a resident of this community for most of his life.

He served in the U.S. Navy from 1954 to 1962. He was employed for many years at Philips Elmet, until his retirement in 1998.

George is survived by his wife, the former Mavis H. Hart, whom he married on May 20, 1961, of Lewiston; one son, Douglas Sanford, of Rockville, Md.; one daughter, Lisa Aluisa and her husband, Dennis, of Andover, Conn.; three grandchildren, Joshua Morin and Jacob and Caroline Sanford; and one sister, Roslie Sharpley and her husband, John, of Sabattus.
